A few details can make the first conversation easier. Here is what to know before requesting a tuning in San Jose or arranging a visit farther away.
When is it time for a tuning?
An acoustic piano can go out of tune even when it is rarely played. Yamaha recommends tuning at least annually and twice during a new piano’s first year. Your piano’s condition and how you use it may call for a different schedule.
If chords sound uneven, a familiar piece no longer sounds right, or you do not remember the last tuning, start by asking about a visit. Tell Eric if the piano has recently moved or has been unused for a long time.
What does tuning do?
Tuning adjusts the pitch of the strings. It is different from regulation, which concerns the keyboard and action, and voicing, which concerns tone. A sticking key or an unusual mechanical sound is worth mentioning separately so the appropriate next step can be discussed.
Digital pianos do not require acoustic string tuning. If you are unsure which type you own, a photo of the instrument and its model label can help.
What affects the quote?
Share whether your piano is an upright or grand, the brand if known, when it was last tuned, and any concerns. A piano that has gone a long time without attention may need assessment before the scope and price can be confirmed.
